How often should my pet have a veterinary exam?
Each pet should have a minimum of one veterinary exam on a yearly basis. If your pet has medical conditions or is vulnerable due to their age we recommend they have more wellness exams. Kittens and puppies should have three veterinary exams annually, while senior pets should have bi-annual exams. What happens during a veterinary exam?
We check all aspects of your pet’s health during veterinary exams and ask questions about their daily routine, behaviour and lifestyle at home. Here’s what typically happens during a veterinary checkup:
- A full physical is performed from nose to tail. We check their fur and skin for any abnormalities, take their temperature, check their eyesight and hearing and listen to their heart.
- We assess your pet’s weight and their diet.
- We discuss their preventative care like parasite control, vaccinations and dental care.
- If the doctor sees cause for concern, we may run a complete diagnostic workup at an added cost (includes blood, urine and fecal matter to detect any illness that might not show physical symptoms)
